Wood Do It - Handyman & Home Technology

These terms explain how I work, what you can expect from me, and what I expect from you. They apply to all work carried out by Wood Do It unless agreed otherwise in writing.

These terms are intended to be fair to both you and me. If anything is unclear, please ask before accepting a quote. 

Quotes and estimates

I will provide a clear price before starting work in writing wherever possible. I ask that you confirm your acceptance in writing before I begin work. For these terms, "in writing" includes email, WhatsApp and text messages. 

Quotes are based on the information available at the time, including any photos, descriptions or inspections provided. If circumstances change, or unexpected problems are discovered once work begins, I will explain what is required and agree any additional costs with you before carrying out extra work. Where a quote is based only on photographs or information provided before visiting, it may need to be revised if the actual conditions differ significantly from those described. 

Small additional tasks or materials may sometimes be added during a job where they are straightforward and agreed with you. Larger changes or additional work will be quoted separately.

Unless stated otherwise, quotes are valid for 30 days.

Scope of work

I will complete the work described in the quote or agreed with you before starting.

Some work may depend on existing conditions, such as the quality of walls, fixings, surfaces, wiring, plumbing, furniture or other items being worked on. I am not responsible for problems caused by existing defects or unsuitable conditions that were not reasonably visible beforehand.

Materials and customer-supplied items

Where materials are included in the price, I will use suitable products appropriate for the job.

If you request a specific product or provide your own materials, I am not responsible for defects, failures or incompatibility caused by those products.

Where possible, I will highlight any concerns about customer-supplied items before installation, but the suitability of the product remains the customer's responsibility.

Additional information for certain services 

Wall mounting and fixing

Before carrying out drilling or fixing work, please inform me of any known hidden pipes, cables, wiring or other hazards within walls, ceilings or other surfaces.

While reasonable care will always be taken, I am not responsible for hidden services or defects that were not known or reasonably identifiable bef0ore work began.

Flat-pack furniture assembly

Quotes for flat-pack assembly assume that all parts, fixings and instructions are present and that the furniture has no manufacturing defects or damage.

I am not responsible for problems caused by missing parts, incorrect instructions or defects in the furniture supplied.

Painting and decorating

Quotes for painting and decorating assume normal preparation requirements.

Additional preparation work, such as extensive filling, repair of damaged surfaces, removal of difficult coatings, treatment of mould or other remedial work, may require additional time and cost. I will discuss any additional work with you before proceeding.

Home Technology support

Quotes for home technology work assume you have the required user accounts, passwords, licences, subscriptions and a suitable internet connection. I am not responsible for problems caused by faults with third-party equipment, software, internet services or manufacturer systems that are outside my control. 

Electrical, plumbing and specialist work

I will only undertake work that is within my skills, experience and legal requirements. Some types of electrical, gas or specialist work may require appropriately qualified professionals, and I will advise you if this applies.

Exclusions

The following are not included unless specifically agreed as part of the quote:

• Removal or disposal of significant quantities of waste, packaging, furniture, appliances, building materials, garden waste or other items.

• Repairing existing damage or significant 'making good' (for example, repainting a wall after removing a TV bracket).

Payment

Payment is due on completion of the work unless otherwise agreed in writing. I accept payment by the methods advertised on my website or otherwise agreed before work begins.

I may request payment for additional agreed work or materials before completion if these significantly change the original quote.

Customer acceptance

Where practical, I will ask you to inspect the completed work before payment is made. Payment confirms your acceptance of the completed work, except for any defects that could not reasonably have been identified at that time. 

Access and preparation

Please ensure I have safe access to the areas where work is required. If I believe the work cannot be carried out safely, I reserve the right to stop work until the issue has been resolved. 

You are responsible for moving valuable, fragile or personal items away from the work area unless we agree otherwise.

I will take reasonable care to protect your property and leave the work area tidy when the job is complete.

Cancellations and delays

If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, please provide as much notice as possible. If you cancel at short notice without reasonable cause, I reserve the right to charge for any materials purchased specifically for your job and for any reasonable costs incurred. 

I reserve the right to rearrange appointments due to circumstances outside my control, such as illness, vehicle problems, extreme weather, unsuitable weather (for outdoor jobs) or delays with suppliers.

Workmanship

I take pride in providing good quality work and will always aim to complete jobs to a high standard. If you believe there is a problem with my workmanship, please contact me as soon as possible so I can investigate and, where appropriate, put things right.

I guarantee my workmanship for 6 months from the date the work is completed, excluding normal wear and tear, misuse, accidental damage, or failures caused by existing materials, products or structures.

Photos and marketing

With your permission, I may take photographs of completed work for use on my website, social media or marketing materials. I will not share personal information or images that identify your home without your agreement.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with any aspect of my work, please contact me promptly. I will always try to resolve issues fairly and professionally.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The terms applying to your work will be those available when your job is agreed.
